The District Art Gallery in Vidin was officially opened on 25 May 1962. In 1976, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of Nicola Petrov's death, the staff of the art gallery decided to appoint him patron of the gallery. &Consequently, his bas-relief, created by the sculptor Georgi Chapkunov, was put over the gate of the art gallery and its name was changed to "Nicola Petrov" District Art Gallery. In 1987, when the district administrative structure was changed, the word "District" in its name disappeared.
