Georgi Dobrinovich is one of the most interesting personalities in the pantheon of Vidin civic memory. He was born in the village of Dalgoshevtsi, Lom region on 15 April 1858. He finished his primary education there and when he was 10, he left his native village and moved to Lom. He started his secondary education in Lom. Since he had no financial means, in 1875 he went to Belgrade, Serbia to live with his uncle Tseko Petkov. There he continued his secondary education from 4th to 7th class, which he finished in 1876, when the Serbo-Turkish war started.
G.Dobrinovich knew that the Serbo-Turkish war was a Russian act, meant to open the way for the liberation of Bulgaria, so he enrolled as a volunteer in the Bulgarian legions. First, he was in Tseko Petrov's detachment and then went to Panayot Hitov's detachment, where he took part in the capturing of Chiprovtsi monastery from the Turks. A week later, however, the Turks took the monastery back and forced the detachment to retrieve to the Serbian border near Kniazhevats. There he was sent to the 3rd Detachment, commanded by Major Chilev, where he stayed till the end of the war. After the signing of the peace treaty he became an interpreter of the Russians for the Petrograd and Moscow committees. In 1877 he went to Ploesht, where he struggled for the liberation of Bulgaria. After the war he went to Russia where he continued his education. When he came back to Bulgaria, he was Assistant to the Policemeister in Sofia for a while, then he became governor of Vidin District. After some time he resigned and became a volunteer and commander of the detachment, defending Vidin from the Serbian invasion in 1885.
In 1886 he started working as a lawyer in Vidin, where his diploma was recognized.
In 1894 he was elected member of the Eighth Common National Assembly. He was also elected member of the Ninth Common Assembly, representative of Vidin region. In 1912 he enrolled as a volunteer in the Balkan war.
Whatever Georgi Dobrinovich did in his life, he did it for his mother country and his people. That's why he shouldn't be forgotten by the young generation in Vidin. He is one of the most honoured and dignified citizens of Vidin, who helped a lot for the spiritual, social and economic development of our region.
